  • One of the reasons I’ve put music on the videos is that the GoPro doesn’t pick up the sim’s audio very well, and it can’t get any of the radio sound. But yesterday I was able to pick up an interconnect audio cable that hooks the GoPro into the sim’s intercom system, and this is…

  • Hite (UT03) is a rough-and-ready canyon strip on a ledge overlooking Lake Powell, UT. Tough to get in and out of, but if you do it’s a nice VFR flight NE through Canyonlands National Park to KCNY near Moab. For this flight we step out of our usual A2A Cessna 182 and fly an A2A…

  • The latest video, this one a VFR flight from John Wayne airport, out to and around Catalina Island. A brief stop there for a virtual lunch, then back into the Class Charlie airspace for a 20R arrival at John Wayne. SoCal scenery is by ORBX FTX, which while it gives the sim some visual stutters, is remarkable…

  • A new video, this of a night flight over Southeast Pennsylvania, with an aborted approach at KPHL and a brief stop at Wings Field for a virtual cup of coffee. We finish where we began, at Brandywine Airport. The lighting is courtesy Night Environment’s Pennsylvania package. It can hit your framerates, but is much better…

  • Night Ops

Last night I made a night flight from KSLC to KCNY, and here is a short video of the cockpit in its night configuration. The scenery is Mega Scenery Earth Utah, and the lighting is Taburet. Also note the new iPad yoke mount …

The other day I was on a flight (a real one) from Dallas. There were overcast conditions, and as we broke out of the clouds there was a very nice view of the cloud deck out the window, so I shot a short video. The sense of speed was also cool.

  • And here’s the aforementioned video of the dusk flight from Salt Lake to Heber. Hope you like it.

  • Yesterday I mentioned the VFR flight I made from Newport, OR to Albion, CA. I put together a little video of the trip, and here it is. There’s even a surprise co-pilot appearance about half-way through …

  • New GoPro

I splurged and replaced my five-year-old GoPro with a new model. And boy is the low-light performance better! Here’s a brief video from today’s flight (be sure to watch it in 1080p HD), and I’ll have more video up soon.

  • This video is from a few weeks back. I hadn’t  installed the sun visors yet, and was still working on the alignment across the three monitors, but overall it looks pretty good (save the poor low-light images from my old GoPro). In this video we take off from KTPA runway 1L, make a left-hand turn…
