KWYS Yellowstone (X-Plane)

KWYS Yellowstone (X-Plane)

Yellowstone Airport sits at the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park. While open only from June to September of each year, it has commercial service via Delta Connection and over 4,000 passengers a year transit via the strip. It also hosts the West Yellowstone Interagency Fire Center, which I’ve roughly rendered here at the north end of the field. KWYS sits at 6,469 feet, so be certain to lean your aircraft before making that takeoff roll.

To use this scenery you will need these libraries:

It also benefits from Airport Environment HD, as do all X-Plane airports.

This scenery is good for XP 10 and 11. The attached screen caps are with my own orthophoto tile underneath and World2XP America / HD Mesh 3, but note that this scenery has no embedded ortho images. I also added a Delta Connection bird on the ramp, which is not in these screen caps. This is a first start at this strip, and while it’s not ORBX, I hope it’s a nice addition to your library and I will likely improve it over time.

This scenery is freeware and you may get it here at the .org. Thanks for looking and happy flying.

1U7 Bear Lake County (X-Plane)

1U7 Bear Lake County (X-Plane)

Bear Lake County Airport sits just north of Bear Lake along the Utah / Idaho border. It averages 200 hops a month, with only four GA aircraft based an the field full-time. This strip is a nice stopover for your flights from the mountains and National Parks of Wyoming and Idaho to those UT. To use this scenery you will need these libraries:

It also benefits from Airport Environment HD, as do all X-Plane airports.

KPUC Carbon County Scenery (X-Plane)

KPUC Carbon County Scenery (X-Plane)

I’ve been working on a few strips on-and-off for the past few weeks. I posted Clearwater yesterday, and here’s KPUC Carbon County. Also known as Buck Davis Field, KPUC is just outside of Price, Utah. A regular stop on the UPS / FedEx route it should be a good strip for FS Economy folks, and it’s a nice addition to your Utah scenery overall. You my download it from the .org, and to use this scenery you will need these libraries:

This scenery is good for XP 10 and 11. The attached screen caps are with an orthophoto tile underneath and World2XP America / HD Mesh 3, but note that this scenery has no embedded ortho images. I have attached a pic over default scenery as well. Thanks for looking and happy flying.

KCLW Clearwater Airpark (X-Plane)

KCLW Clearwater Airpark (X-Plane)

Clearwater Airpark is a public strip near downtown Clearwater, Florida. I get to that part of the world from time to time, so thought it would be nice to improve on the available scenery. To use this scenery please download it here from the .org. You will also need these libraries:

65S Boundary County / Bonners Ferry (X-Plane)

65S Boundary County / Bonners Ferry (X-Plane)

I had a viewer request to fly into Bonners Ferry, located in far Northern Idaho, nearly to the Canada border. Finding the default XP11 scenery lacking, I decided to design some. You may download it here at X-Plane.org. It’s a very pleasant strip, overlooking the town of Bonners Ferry and the Kootenai river from its plateau setting. From the Boundary County web page:

The Boundary County Airport lies two miles northeast of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, providing a scenic destination spot or resting point for all flyers. Some of the services available at the airport include overnight hangars for corporate aircraft, courtesy/rental car, pilot’s lounge and supplies, flight instruction and airframe and power plant repair and maintenance and one restaurant within walking distance; the Three Mile Cafe.

ORBX makes a fantastic version of this field for FSX/P3D, and this is no where near that level of quality. Still, I took a while on this, and like it very much. I hope you do, too.

To use this scenery you will need these libraries:

KTHM Thompson Falls, MT (X-Plane)

KTHM Thompson Falls, MT (X-Plane)

I had a viewer request to fly from KTHM, and looking at the default X-Plane scenery I decided to update it with something better. So here is KTHM for X-Plane 10.5+, and you may download it here. For this scenery to work properly you will also need the OpenSceneryX, JBHangars, and MisterX libraries. You will also need to download and place this folder in your custom scenery folder, and then place the JBHangars library inside it – this will make it so X-Plane sees the hangars. You only need to do this once. Thanks and I hope you like the scenery.

1K1 Lloyd Benton Field (X-Plane)

1K1 Lloyd Benton Field (X-Plane)

My third scenery design, this is 1K1, Lloyd Stearman Field in Benton, Kansas (formerly known as Benton Park). Named in honor of aviation pioneer Lloyd Stearman and home base to seven Stearman WWII biplanes and various other warbirds. I made this as a request, and hope it’s of interest to those simming in the Wichita environs. This scenery works with X-Plane 10 and 11, and requires:

  • OpenSceneryX library
  • Prefab Airports library
  • MisterX library

Also note that the attached images reflect MisterX HD Airport and World2XP. To install simply download the .ZIP file, uncompress it, and add to your Custom Scenery folder.

I’m still learning my way with this, and am open to any feedback. This airport also took the better part of the day, so I don’t know that I will do many more requests (although I enjoyed doing this field and learned a lot). But as I create new sceneries for airports I sim at, I’ll continue to upload them here. Thanks.

KMQS Chester County (X-Plane)

KMQS Chester County (X-Plane)

At a reader’s request I’ve designed a second custom airport for X-Plane, KMQS Chester County. Chester is a local field where I’ve done pattern work, and I think it turned out well as a second attempt at scenery design. You may visit the download page here if you’d like to grab it.

KOQN Brandywine (X-Plane)

KOQN Brandywine (X-Plane)

I’ve been playing around with the X-Plane world scenery editor and decided to make custom scenery for my home field, KOQN Brandywine. The default KOQN is just a strip with taxiways, and while the prefab airport package made it better, I decided to make my own as a learning experience.

I’ve created a page for the scenery here, and anyone is welcome to download and use it. I’ve also added a new menu item to the main navigation menu for it as future scenery packages I might make. And here are some snaps of the real thing and my interpretation.
